PARACLETE

PARACLETE {GR paraklētos - "para" (beside/alongside) and "kalein" (to call)}. We know that it was the Paraclete or Holy Spirit whom Jesus mentioned as the promised "Comforter" (i.e. "strengthener", "fortifier") in John 14:16): “ (…) I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever (…) And in John 14:26: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” In fact, the term Paraclete is more than a Counsellor or Helper. It’s someone who stands beside us and cries out, or pleads on our behalf, like a defense attorney. He guides us in the way of the truth. God has revealed and sent the Holy Spirit.  The PARACLETE is God, the third Person of the Holy Trinity, who, from eternity, "proceeds" from God the Father (Jn 15:26). The HOLY SPIRIT bears the title of Lord with God the Father and Christ the Son. He is the Spirit of God. He is eternal, uncreated, divine, and co-equal with the Father and the Son; and so, in every action of God toward the world, the HOLY SPIRIT is necessarily acting.

PARACLET

Paraclet (Parakletos) est un mot d’origine grecque qui signifie « celui qu’on appelle à son secours », ou « celui qui intercède ». Le Paraclet est l’un des noms du Saint-Esprit. Pour les chrétiens orthodoxes, le Paraclet ou Esprit Saint est Dieu — la troisième Personne de la Sainte Trinité; Il procède du Père (Jn 15, 26), est consubstantiel et égal au Père et au Fils; Il répand dans le monde la Grâce divine incréée et inspire les prophètes; ainsi, dans chaque action de Dieu envers le monde, le SAINT-ESPRIT agit inévitablement. Il est décrit comme un « consolateur » guidant les gens vers la vérité.  Nous savons que c’est le PARACLETE ou SAINT-ESPRIT que Jésus mentionne comme le « consolateur » promis dans Jean 14, 16 : « Et moi, je prierai le Père, et il vous donnera un autre consolateur, afin qu’il demeure éternellement avec vous. » Et dans Jean 14, 26 : « Mais le consolateur, l’Esprit Saint, que le Père enverra en mon nom, vous enseignera toutes choses, et vous rappellera tout ce que je vous ai dit. »   Le PARACLET ou SAINT-ESPRIT guide et protège l’Église du Christ, lui ayant donné vie le jour de la Pentecôte. Il confère aux membres de l’Église des dons spirituels pour leur illumination ; Il habite à l’intérieur de chaque vrai chrétien, le corps de chacun étant son temple (1 Co 3, 16).
