THE SIGN OF THE COVENANT – The rainbow is the token of the covenant which God made with Noah when he came forth from the ark that the waters should no more become a flood to destroy all flesh:  “I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth” (Genesis 9:13 ) - a rainbow appears right after the great worldwide flood in order to remove sinful and evil-minded man from the earth. It symbolized God's faithfulness and mercy, and the covenant He made with Noah (representing mankind) not to destroy the world in such a way again. God took the rainbow, which had hitherto been but a beautiful object shining in the heavens when the sun’s rays fell on falling rain, and consecrated it as the sign of His love and the witness of His promise. Noah’s Ark is actually a picture of salvation in Christ, as He is the door through which we need to go to be saved for eternity (John 9:10).  The Glory of God is likened to "the appearance of the rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day" (Ezekiel 1:28). The Bible reveals to us that the rainbow is a symbol of Christ.  Rainbows appear again in the prophetic book of Revelation. The first mention appears when the apostle John uses it to describe the glory and power of God on his throne: “(…) and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.” (Revelation 4:3). It is seen as the symbol of hope and the bright emblem of mercy and love. The second mention of a rainbow occurs when John describes the look of a mighty angel: “(…) And a rainbow was on his head, his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire.”  (Revelation 10:1)  The rainbow, as a symbol of Christ, reminds us that He is the mediator between man and God and that He bestows upon us the free gift of salvation.

LE SYMBOLE DE L’ALLIANCE – L'arc-en-ciel est le signe de l'alliance que Dieu a établie avec Noé à sa sortie de l'Arche, à la fin du déluge : « j'ai placé mon arc dans la nue, et il servira de signe d'alliance entre moi et la terre » (Genèse 9:13) - un arc-en-ciel apparaît juste après le Grand Déluge qui visait à éliminer de la terre l'homme pécheur et mauvais. Il symbolise la fidélité et la miséricorde de Dieu, ainsi que « l'alliance perpétuelle » que Dieu a conclue avec Noé (représentant « tous les êtres vivants ») de ne plus détruire le monde de cette manière. L'arc-en-ciel - jusque-là un phénomène météorologique lumineux en forme d'arc - devient un signe de l’amour de Dieu et le témoin de Sa promesse. L'Arche de Noé est en fait une image du Salut en Christ, car Il est la porte par laquelle nous devons passer pour être sauvés et jouir de la vie éternelle (Jean 10, 9).  La gloire de Dieu est comparée à l'apparition « de l'arc qui est dans la nue en un jour de pluie » (Ézéchiel 1, 28). La Bible nous révèle que l'arc-en-ciel est un symbole du Christ.  Les arcs-en-ciel réapparaissent dans le Livre de l'Apocalypse. La première mention apparaît lorsque l'apôtre Jean l'utilise pour décrire la gloire et la puissance de Dieu sur son trône: « (…) le trône était environné d'un arc-en-ciel semblable à de l'émeraude. » (Apocalypse 4, 3). Il est considéré comme le symbole de l'espoir et l'emblème lumineux de la miséricorde et de l'amour. La deuxième mention d'un arc-en-ciel apparaît dans la description de Jean d'un ange puissant: « (…) au-dessus de sa tête était l'arc-en-ciel, et son visage était comme le soleil, et ses pieds comme des colonnes de feu. » (Apocalypse 10,1)  L'arc-en-ciel, en tant que symbole du Christ, nous rappelle qu'Il est le médiateur entre l'homme et Dieu et qu'Il nous accorde le don gratuit du Salut.
